Rape can cause tremendous physical, social and psychologic disruption which affects the victims, their families and friends, and the community. In the past, society has been quite remiss in its response to rape victims. Major attitudinal changes based on factual information must take place, because the attitudes and biases of those helping the victim can further victimize the sexually assaulted woman.
