Some remarks on Ménière's disease. 1980

It is very necessary that the medical profession does not accept unfounded theories as an indication for any therapy, but certainly not for disagreeable treatments like salt-free diet, fluid restriction, surgery. This is especially valid for whimsical ailments like Ménière's disease, that regularly and spontaneously show symptom-free periods and strong fluctuations. The least that can be asked is that any proposal of a new kind of treatment is only made after a statistical analysis in a prospective investigation which is based on the comparison of two matched groups, one of treated and the other of non-treated patients; if possible, double-blind.
