Chemoprophylactic activity of flubendazole against adult Brugia pahangi transplanted into the peritoneal cavity of jirds. 1980

D A Denham, and E Brandt

Jirds were treated by the subcutaneous injection of 100 mg flubendazole per kilogram. They were infected subsequently by the implantation of adult Brugia pahangi intraperitoneally at different times. No adult worms survived in jirds treated 9 wk before infection. Thereafter, increasing numbers of adult worms survived so tht by 21 wk there were almost as many worms in the treated jirds as in untreated controls.

D010529 Peritoneal Cavity The space enclosed by the peritoneum. It is divided into two portions, the greater sac and the lesser sac or omental bursa, which lies behind the STOMACH. The two sacs are connected by the foramen of Winslow, or epiploic foramen. Greater Sac,Lesser Sac,Omental Bursa,Bursa, Omental,Cavity, Peritoneal,Sac, Greater,Sac, Lesser
D002009 Brugia A filarial worm of Southeast Asia, producing filariasis and elephantiasis in various mammals including man. It was formerly included in the genus WUCHERERIA. Brugias
D005260 Female Females
D005368 Filariasis Infections with nematodes of the superfamily FILARIOIDEA. The presence of living worms in the body is mainly asymptomatic but the death of adult worms leads to granulomatous inflammation and permanent fibrosis. Organisms of the genus Elaeophora infect wild elk and domestic sheep causing ischemic necrosis of the brain, blindness, and dermatosis of the face. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
