High frequency conductive hearing loss: a case presentation. 1981

W D Mustain, and H E Hasseltine

High frequency conductive hearing loss can result from partial obstruction of the external auditory canal, ear canal "collapse," or partial ossicular discontinuity. This report describes the evaluation and management of an unusual case of partial ossicular discontinuity with resultant high frequency conductive hearing loss.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007188 Incus One of three ossicles of the middle ear. It conducts sound vibrations from the MALLEUS to the STAPES.
D008297 Male Males
D008307 Malleus The largest of the auditory ossicles, and the one attached to the membrana tympani (TYMPANIC MEMBRANE). Its club-shaped head articulates with the INCUS.
D002648 Child A person 6 to 12 years of age. An individual 2 to 5 years old is CHILD, PRESCHOOL. Children
D002675 Child, Preschool A child between the ages of 2 and 5. Children, Preschool,Preschool Child,Preschool Children
D004429 Ear Ossicles A mobile chain of three small bones (INCUS; MALLEUS; STAPES) in the TYMPANIC CAVITY between the TYMPANIC MEMBRANE and the oval window on the wall of INNER EAR. Sound waves are converted to vibration by the tympanic membrane then transmitted via these ear ossicles to the inner ear. D004432 Ear, Middle The space and structures directly internal to the TYMPANIC MEMBRANE and external to the inner ear (LABYRINTH). Its major components include the AUDITORY OSSICLES and the EUSTACHIAN TUBE that connects the cavity of middle ear (tympanic cavity) to the upper part of the throat. D006314 Hearing Loss, Conductive Hearing loss due to interference with the mechanical reception or amplification of sound to the COCHLEA. The interference is in the outer or middle ear involving the EAR CANAL; TYMPANIC MEMBRANE; or EAR OSSICLES. Conductive Hearing Loss
D006316 Hearing Loss, High-Frequency Hearing loss in frequencies above 1000 hertz. Hearing Loss, High Frequency,High-Frequency Hearing Loss
