Aneurysm of the anterior inferior cerebellar artery at the internal auditory meatus. 1978

K Mori, and H Miyazaki, and H Ono

An aneurysm of the anterior inferior cerebellar artery is reported. Symptoms were a sudden and intermittent hearing loss. Electrocochleography indicated that the patient's deafness was of retrolabyrinthine origin. Vertebral angiography disclosed the aneurysm. At operation the aneurysm was coated. The literature is reviewed.

D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D010579 Petrous Bone The dense rock-like part of temporal bone that contains the INNER EAR. Petrous bone is located at the base of the skull. Sometimes it is combined with the MASTOID PROCESS and called petromastoid part of temporal bone. Petrous Apex,Petrous Pyramid,Bone, Petrous,Petrous Bones
D002531 Cerebellum The part of brain that lies behind the BRAIN STEM in the posterior base of skull (CRANIAL FOSSA, POSTERIOR). It is also known as the "little brain" with convolutions similar to those of CEREBRAL CORTEX, inner white matter, and deep cerebellar nuclei. Its function is to coordinate voluntary movements, maintain balance, and learn motor skills. Cerebella,Corpus Cerebelli,Parencephalon,Cerebellums,Parencephalons
D002532 Intracranial Aneurysm Abnormal outpouching in the wall of intracranial blood vessels. Most common are the saccular (berry) aneurysms located at branch points in CIRCLE OF WILLIS at the base of the brain. Vessel rupture results in SUBARACHNOID HEMORRHAGE or INTRACRANIAL HEMORRHAGES. Giant aneurysms (>2.5 cm in diameter) may compress adjacent structures, including the OCULOMOTOR NERVE. D006313 Hearing Loss, Central Hearing loss due to disease of the AUDITORY PATHWAYS (in the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM) which originate in the COCHLEAR NUCLEI of the PONS and then ascend bilaterally to the MIDBRAIN, the THALAMUS, and then the AUDITORY CORTEX in the TEMPORAL LOBE. Bilateral lesions of the auditory pathways are usually required to cause central hearing loss. Cortical deafness refers to loss of hearing due to bilateral auditory cortex lesions. Unilateral BRAIN STEM lesions involving the cochlear nuclei may result in unilateral hearing loss. Central Hearing Loss,Cortical Deafness,Deafness, Cortical
