In-vitro motility of the gallbladder was investigated in the circularly cut full thickness strips obtained from 19 mongrel dogs. The present study was undertaken to determine an appropriate size of the strips for observation and to know any difference, if exists, between motilities of the strips prepared from the neck, body and fundus. Recordings were made on a pen chart recorder using an isometric tension system. The results obtained were as follows. 1) The most appropriate size of the specimens to examine the changes of contractile dynamics was 5 mm in width and 15 mm in length. 2) The strips from three parts of the gallbladder showed similar rhythmic and tonic spontaneous contraction patterns.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009119 Muscle Contraction A process leading to shortening and/or development of tension in muscle tissue. Muscle contraction occurs by a sliding filament mechanism whereby actin filaments slide inward among the myosin filaments. D004285 Dogs The domestic dog, Canis familiaris, comprising about 400 breeds, of the carnivore family CANIDAE. They are worldwide in distribution and live in association with people. (Walker's Mammals of the World, 5th ed, p1065) Canis familiaris,Dog
D005704 Gallbladder A storage reservoir for BILE secretion. Gallbladder allows the delivery of bile acids at a high concentration and in a controlled manner, via the CYSTIC DUCT to the DUODENUM, for degradation of dietary lipid. Gallbladders
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
