Ornithine decarboxylase activity and the rate of protein synthesis were measured in the rat parotid gland slices incubated in vitro. A circahoralian rhythm of the enzyme activity preceding by phase that of the protein synthesis was found. These data are consistent with the assumption that ornithine decarboxylase may participate in the maintenance of the protein synthesis circahoralian rhythm in the parotid gland cells.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D009955 Ornithine Decarboxylase A pyridoxal-phosphate protein, believed to be the rate-limiting compound in the biosynthesis of polyamines. It catalyzes the decarboxylation of ornithine to form putrescine, which is then linked to a propylamine moiety of decarboxylated S-adenosylmethionine to form spermidine. D010306 Parotid Gland The largest of the three pairs of SALIVARY GLANDS. They lie on the sides of the FACE immediately below and in front of the EAR. Gland, Parotid,Glands, Parotid,Parotid Glands
D010507 Periodicity The tendency of a phenomenon to recur at regular intervals; in biological systems, the recurrence of certain activities (including hormonal, cellular, neural) may be annual, seasonal, monthly, daily, or more frequently (ultradian). D002262 Carboxy-Lyases Enzymes that catalyze the addition of a carboxyl group to a compound (carboxylases) or the removal of a carboxyl group from a compound (decarboxylases). EC 4.1.1. Carboxy-Lyase,Decarboxylase,Decarboxylases,Carboxy Lyase,Carboxy Lyases
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
