[Progress in radio-isotope surgery for cervical carcinoma (author's transl)]. 1981

E Gitsch, and K Philipp

The third phase in the use of radio-isotopes for radical surgery of cervical carcinoma, using 99m Technetium antimony sulphide to localise pelvic lymph nodes on the operating camera table has yielded results which indicate good progress. The potency of lymphadenectomy was increased from an original level of 52.5 per cent to 81.6 per cent. Recurrence mortality went down over the first three years after treatment, according to preliminary results.

D009364 Neoplasm Recurrence, Local The local recurrence of a neoplasm following treatment. It arises from microscopic cells of the original neoplasm that have escaped therapeutic intervention and later become clinically visible at the original site. D011877 Radionuclide Imaging The production of an image obtained by cameras that detect the radioactive emissions of an injected radionuclide as it has distributed differentially throughout tissues in the body. The image obtained from a moving detector is called a scan, while the image obtained from a stationary camera device is called a scintiphotograph.
