Glucose metabolism in spontaneously hypertensive rats. 1978

Y Yamori, and K Ohta, and M Ohtaka, and Y Nara, and R Horie, and A Ooshima

Serum glucose levels in SHR (especially SHR selected for a greater hyperglycemic response) tended to be higher at 'fasting' and were significantly higher after peroral glucose administration than those in normotensive WK. However, plasma immunoreactive insulin was not decreased in SHR as compared with WK. No significant acceleration of gluconeogenesis was observed in SHR.

D006973 Hypertension Persistently high systemic arterial BLOOD PRESSURE. Based on multiple readings (BLOOD PRESSURE DETERMINATION), hypertension is currently defined as when SYSTOLIC PRESSURE is consistently greater than 140 mm Hg or when DIASTOLIC PRESSURE is consistently 90 mm Hg or more. D005951 Glucose Tolerance Test A test to determine the ability of an individual to maintain HOMEOSTASIS of BLOOD GLUCOSE. It includes measuring blood glucose levels in a fasting state, and at prescribed intervals before and after oral glucose intake (75 or 100 g) or intravenous infusion (0.5 g/kg). D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
