The immune system of the bovine mammary gland is described and trials of different vaccine preparations and immunization procedures are described. Although there seems to be on effective vaccine preventing udder inflammations, the increased knowledge about the immune system gives hope that vaccines can be prepared in the near future that can limit the establishment of infections in the glandular epithelium.
