The small-carrion penile prosthesis. 1978

M P Small

A normal state of erection can be achieved by bilateral, intracorporal implantation of the Small-Carrion penile prosthesis. This prosthesis gives adequate length and, more importantly for normal intercourse, normal width to the penis. Although the prosthesis is firm, it is flexible enough to keep the phallus inconspicuous under various types of undershorts, either in the normal position or against the abdominal wall. The fact that the patient will have a permanent erection has not been a deterrent. Furthermore, there have been no complaints about this postoperatively. Raz and Kaufman, Goodwin, Melman, Nellens et al., and others have reported excellent results with the use of the Small-Carrion prosthesis.

D010411 Penile Induration A condition characterized by hardening of the PENIS due to the formation of fibrous plaques on the dorsolateral aspect of the PENIS, usually involving the membrane (tunica albuginea) surrounding the erectile tissue (corpus cavernosum penis). This may eventually cause a painful deformity of the shaft or constriction of the urethra, or both. D010413 Penis The external reproductive organ of males. It is composed of a mass of erectile tissue enclosed in three cylindrical fibrous compartments. Two of the three compartments, the corpus cavernosa, are placed side-by-side along the upper part of the organ. The third compartment below, the corpus spongiosum, houses the urethra. D019736 Prostheses and Implants Artificial substitutes for body parts, and materials inserted into tissue for functional, cosmetic, or therapeutic purposes. Prostheses can be functional, as in the case of artificial arms and legs, or cosmetic, as in the case of an artificial eye. Implants, all surgically inserted or grafted into the body, tend to be used therapeutically. IMPLANTS, EXPERIMENTAL is available for those used experimentally.
