[The interdisciplinary role of radiology (author's transl)]. 1980

W Frik

Close contact with the other medical specialties is mandatory for diagnostic and therapeutic radiology. There is constant need for radiology - as for other specialties - to review its position in the scope of all medical specialties; specialties which can roughly be separated into three categories: specialty by organ, by disease or by method. Radiology would best fit into the "specialty method" category, similiar as surgery. Radiologic advice to other medical specialists concerning indication for a radiodiagnostic or radio-therapeutic procedure ist nearly as important as the procedure itself. The same is valid for joint tumor-conferences in radiotherapy and for joint clinico-radiological confereces in radiodiagnosis.
