Homograft stapes in middle ear surgery. 1978

M Tos

Descriptions are given of various uses of stapes homografts in tympanoplasty on ears with missing stapedial arch. The use of homograft stapes-incus assembly, placing the head of the homograft stapes on the patient's own footplate and on top of that an incus, is a method which at long sight has proved to afford better results than the use of an incus columella.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007188 Incus One of three ossicles of the middle ear. It conducts sound vibrations from the MALLEUS to the STAPES.
D004429 Ear Ossicles A mobile chain of three small bones (INCUS; MALLEUS; STAPES) in the TYMPANIC CAVITY between the TYMPANIC MEMBRANE and the oval window on the wall of INNER EAR. Sound waves are converted to vibration by the tympanic membrane then transmitted via these ear ossicles to the inner ear. D013199 Stapes One of the three ossicles of the middle ear. It transmits sound vibrations from the INCUS to the internal ear (Ear, Internal see LABYRINTH).

Usually refers to genetically disparate individuals in contradistinction to isogeneic transplantation for genetically identical individuals. D014433 Tympanoplasty Surgical reconstruction of the hearing mechanism of the middle ear, with restoration of the drum membrane to protect the round window from sound pressure, and establishment of ossicular continuity between the tympanic membrane and the oval window.
