Cytotoxicity of human adherent mononuclear cells towards unsensitised human erythrocytes. 1980

A Temple, and A C Allison

Human adherent mononuclear cells have been shown to become cytolytic to autologous and allogeneic erythrocytes after 1-2 days in culture. Cytolysis is not inhibited by cytochalasin B, but is inhibited by extremely low steroid concentrations. Cytolysis cannot be demonstrated earlier than 12 hours after adding the target cells.

D007962 Leukocytes White blood cells. These include granular leukocytes (BASOPHILS; EOSINOPHILS; and NEUTROPHILS) as well as non-granular leukocytes (LYMPHOCYTES and MONOCYTES). D002448 Cell Adhesion Adherence of cells to surfaces or to other cells. Adhesion, Cell,Adhesions, Cell,Cell Adhesions
D003571 Cytochalasin B A cytotoxic member of the CYTOCHALASINS. Phomin
D003602 Cytotoxicity, Immunologic The phenomenon of target cell destruction by immunologically active effector cells. It may be brought about directly by sensitized T-lymphocytes or by lymphoid or myeloid "killer" cells, or it may be mediated by cytotoxic antibody, cytotoxic factor released by lymphoid cells, or complement. D004912 Erythrocytes Red blood cells. Mature erythrocytes are non-nucleated, biconcave disks containing HEMOGLOBIN whose function is to transport OXYGEN. D013256 Steroids A group of polycyclic compounds closely related biochemically to TERPENES. They include cholesterol, numerous hormones, precursors of certain vitamins, bile acids, alcohols (STEROLS), and certain natural drugs and poisons. Steroids have a common nucleus, a fused, reduced 17-carbon atom ring system, cyclopentanoperhydrophenanthrene. Most steroids also have two methyl groups and an aliphatic side-chain attached to the nucleus. (From Hawley's Condensed Chemical Dictionary, 11th ed) Steroid,Catatoxic Steroids,Steroids, Catatoxic
