[Gastric mucosal blood flow after selective proximal vagotomy (author's transl)]. 1980

W Seitz, and W Grimm, and W Badenheim

Gastric mucosal blood flow in dogs was estimated by radioactive labelled microspheres after SPV. The measurements were taken before and after gastric acid stimulation. The results show that under physiologic conditions a stimulation of gastric acid secretion is associated with an increased mucosal blood flow. After SPV, mucosal blood flow is increased, although it is known that gastric acid secretion is decreased. After histamine our results indicate a reversal of the effects of SPV into physiologic ranges. This observation is contrary to the generally accepted view that stimulation of acid secretion always is associated with an increase in gastric mucosal blood flow.

D004285 Dogs The domestic dog, Canis familiaris, comprising about 400 breeds, of the carnivore family CANIDAE. They are worldwide in distribution and live in association with people. (Walker's Mammals of the World, 5th ed, p1065) Canis familiaris,Dog
D005753 Gastric Mucosa Lining of the STOMACH, consisting of an inner EPITHELIUM, a middle LAMINA PROPRIA, and an outer MUSCULARIS MUCOSAE. The surface cells produce MUCUS that protects the stomach from attack by digestive acid and enzymes. When the epithelium invaginates into the LAMINA PROPRIA at various region of the stomach (CARDIA; GASTRIC FUNDUS; and PYLORUS), different tubular gastric glands are formed. These glands consist of cells that secrete mucus, enzymes, HYDROCHLORIC ACID, or hormones. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
