[International histological classification of breast cancer by the WHO (1968) and its prognostic value]. 1980

V D Ermilova

The analysis of 837 observations of mammary gland carcinoma carried out in accordance with the international histological classification of the cancer of this organ (WHO, 1968) showed the most frequent type of cancer to be infiltrating carcinoma of various degrees of malignancy (78%) represented by tumors of glandular, solidscirrhous, and low-differentiated solid structures. The frequency of cancer metastasizing into regional lymph nodes was found to depend on the type of tumor growth (non-infiltrating carcinomas did not metastasize, intraductal cancer with initiated invasion was accompanied by metastases in 18% observations, in invasive carcinoma metastases were found in more than 50% observations), on the degree of malignancy (in the I degree of malignancy metastases were observed in 24% cases, in the II degree in 50%, and in the III degree in 76%), on the presence of pseudocapsule and lymphoid infiltration (with the combination of these factors metastases were found only in 2% observations).
