[Bowenoid papulosis (author's transl)]. 1980

H Tritsch

Bowenoid papulosis of the anogenital area was found in 3 women and 3 men aged 24 to 64 years. These were papulo-verrucous efflorescences with a tendency to multilocular recurrences despite cold cauterisation. Spontaneous healing was also observed. Histology showed acanthomas with varying degrees of dysplasia including carcinoma in situ. Light microscopic changes in the proliferating epidermis were found repeatedly which is taken as evidence for virus-induced origin. Thus the characteristic cell dysplasia of bowenoid papulosis is possibly the consequence of a viral anaplastic transformation. There is no definite histologic differentiation between dysplasia due to podophyllin in papillary condylomas and that of bowenoid papulosis.

D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D009364 Neoplasm Recurrence, Local The local recurrence of a neoplasm following treatment. It arises from microscopic cells of the original neoplasm that have escaped therapeutic intervention and later become clinically visible at the original site. D001913 Bowen's Disease A persistent progressive non-elevated red scaly or crusted plaque which is due to an intradermal carcinoma and is potentially malignant. Atypical squamous cells proliferate through the whole thickness of the epidermis. The lesions may occur anywhere on the skin surface or on mucosal surfaces. The cause most frequently found is trivalent arsenic compounds. Freezing, cauterization or diathermy coagulation is often effective.
