Structural study of the carbohydrate moiety of bovine pancreatic ribonuclease B. 1980

C J Liang, and K Yamashita, and A Kobata

The sugar chain of bovine pancreatic ribonuclease B was released from the polypeptide moiety by hydrazinolysis and by endo-beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase H digestion, and reduced with NaB[3H]4 after N-acetylation. The radioactive oligosaccharide mixtures thus obtained were fractionated by Bio-Gel P-4 column chromatography, and their structures were studied by sequential exoglycosidase digestion, methylation study, periodate oxidation and acetolysis. The results show that bovine pancreatic ribonuclease B has one of the following sugar chains as asparagine-linked carbohydrate. Formula (See Text).

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008745 Methylation Addition of methyl groups. In histo-chemistry methylation is used to esterify carboxyl groups and remove sulfate groups by treating tissue sections with hot methanol in the presence of hydrochloric acid. (From Stedman, 25th ed) Methylations
D009844 Oligosaccharides Carbohydrates consisting of between two (DISACCHARIDES) and ten MONOSACCHARIDES connected by either an alpha- or beta-glycosidic link. They are found throughout nature in both the free and bound form. Oligosaccharide
D010179 Pancreas A nodular organ in the ABDOMEN that contains a mixture of ENDOCRINE GLANDS and EXOCRINE GLANDS. The small endocrine portion consists of the ISLETS OF LANGERHANS secreting a number of hormones into the blood stream. The large exocrine portion (EXOCRINE PANCREAS) is a compound acinar gland that secretes several digestive enzymes into the pancreatic ductal system that empties into the DUODENUM.
D002236 Carbohydrate Conformation The characteristic 3-dimensional shape of a carbohydrate. Carbohydrate Linkage,Carbohydrate Conformations,Carbohydrate Linkages,Conformation, Carbohydrate,Conformations, Carbohydrate,Linkage, Carbohydrate,Linkages, Carbohydrate
D002240 Carbohydrate Sequence The sequence of carbohydrates within POLYSACCHARIDES; GLYCOPROTEINS; and GLYCOLIPIDS. Carbohydrate Sequences,Sequence, Carbohydrate,Sequences, Carbohydrate

D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
