Failure of osteosynthesis can be caused by wrong indication, faulty choice of the surgical method and technique or by wound infection. Two factors are always of great importance in treating fractures: stability of the fixation, if necessary realised by reoperation or by an additional plaster cast and-sufficient time for healing. Disregarding these two principles will be followed by failure apart from the method used.
