[Relationship between the structure and clinical course of chondrosarcomas]. 1980

S N Ivanenko

The association between histological structure of chondrosarcomas and their clinical course was studied on the material of 138 clinico-morphological observations. The scheme of O'Neal and Ackerman extended and supplemented by S. I. Lipkin was used to determine the degree of morphological maturity of chondrosarcomas. By the degree of maturity the tumours were divided into 3 groups. No relationship between the rate of recurrence and the degree of maturity was observed. On the contrary, the dependence of metastasizing on the maturity of tumor was statistically significant. Difference in the survival among patients with chondrosarcomas of the I, II, and III degree of maturity was quite significant, particularly in the period of 5-9 years after the establishment of the diagnosis and surgical treatment.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009232 Myxoma A benign neoplasm derived from connective tissue, consisting chiefly of polyhedral and stellate cells that are loosely embedded in a soft mucoid matrix, thereby resembling primitive mesenchymal tissue. It occurs frequently intramuscularly where it may be mistaken for a sarcoma. It appears also in the jaws and the skin. (From Stedman, 25th ed) Angiomyxoma,Angiomyxomas,Myxomas
D009336 Necrosis The death of cells in an organ or tissue due to disease, injury or failure of the blood supply.
D009362 Neoplasm Metastasis The transfer of a neoplasm from one organ or part of the body to another remote from the primary site. Metastase,Metastasis,Metastases, Neoplasm,Metastasis, Neoplasm,Neoplasm Metastases,Metastases
D001859 Bone Neoplasms Tumors or cancer located in bone tissue or specific BONES. Bone Cancer,Cancer of Bone,Cancer of the Bone,Neoplasms, Bone,Bone Neoplasm,Neoplasm, Bone
D002813 Chondrosarcoma A slowly growing malignant neoplasm derived from cartilage cells, occurring most frequently in pelvic bones or near the ends of long bones, in middle-aged and old people. Most chondrosarcomas arise de novo, but some may develop in a preexisting benign cartilaginous lesion or in patients with ENCHONDROMATOSIS. (Stedman, 25th ed) Chondrosarcomas
D002908 Chronic Disease Diseases which have one or more of the following characteristics: they are permanent, leave residual disability, are caused by nonreversible pathological alteration, require special training of the patient for rehabilitation, or may be expected to require a long period of supervision, observation, or care (Dictionary of Health Services Management, 2d ed). For epidemiological studies chronic disease often includes HEART DISEASES; STROKE; CANCER; and diabetes (DIABETES MELLITUS, TYPE 2).
