[The effects of dihydroergotamine on the circulatory system of man during neurolept analgesia (author's transl)]. 1980

The effect of 0.015 mg/kg KHE i.v. on the circulatory system was investigated in 10 patients after closure of an atrial septal defect under neuroleptanalgesia. The arterial pressure increased due to an increase of total systemic resistance. The filling pressures of the right and the left ventricle increased while the stroke index remained unchanged. The maximal rate of rise of left ventricular pressure did not change despite the marked changes of pre- and afterload. The data support the drug mechanism of a volume shift from the peripheral to the central circulation. The possible reasons for the missing stroke index increase are discussed.

D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D009458 Neuroleptanalgesia A form of analgesia accompanied by general quiescence and psychic indifference to environmental stimuli, without loss of consciousness, and produced by the combined administration of a major tranquilizer (neuroleptic) and a narcotic. Neuroleptoanalgesia

D006344 Heart Septal Defects, Atrial Developmental abnormalities in any portion of the ATRIAL SEPTUM resulting in abnormal communications between the two upper chambers of the heart. Classification of atrial septal defects is based on location of the communication and types of incomplete fusion of atrial septa with the ENDOCARDIAL CUSHIONS in the fetal heart. They include ostium primum, ostium secundum, sinus venosus, and coronary sinus defects. D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
D013318 Stroke Volume The amount of BLOOD pumped out of the HEART per beat, not to be confused with cardiac output (volume/time). It is calculated as the difference between the end-diastolic volume and the end-systolic volume.
