[Madelung's lipoma (an electron microscopic and autoradiographic study)]. 1980

M I Kuzin, and A A Pal'tsyn, and A A Adamian, and D S Sarkisov

In two cases of Madelung lipoma DNA and RNA synthesis in the material removed at operation was studied by electron-radioautographic techniques. Lipoma adipocytes were found to differ normal ones by incompleteness of the differentiation process. This is manifested by the retention of DNA and RNA synthesis in lipoma adipocytes. A faster rate of proliferation of stromal-vascular cells of lipoma which may be the source of formation of new adipocytes was observed. Intensified DNA and RNA synthesis in patients with Madelung lipoma was observed not only in the cells of the tumor itself but also in the adjacent fatty tissue.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008067 Lipoma A benign tumor composed of fat cells (ADIPOCYTES). It can be surrounded by a thin layer of connective tissue (encapsulated), or diffuse without the capsule. D008854 Microscopy, Electron Microscopy using an electron beam, instead of light, to visualize the sample, thereby allowing much greater magnification. The interactions of ELECTRONS with specimens are used to provide information about the fine structure of that specimen. In TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICROSCOPY the reactions of the electrons that are transmitted through the specimen are imaged. In SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY an electron beam falls at a non-normal angle on the specimen and the image is derived from the reactions occurring above the plane of the specimen. Electron Microscopy
D004273 DNA, Neoplasm DNA present in neoplastic tissue. Neoplasm DNA
D006258 Head and Neck Neoplasms Soft tissue tumors or cancer arising from the mucosal surfaces of the LIP; oral cavity; PHARYNX; LARYNX; and cervical esophagus. Other sites included are the NOSE and PARANASAL SINUSES; SALIVARY GLANDS; THYROID GLAND and PARATHYROID GLANDS; and MELANOMA and non-melanoma skin cancers of the head and neck. D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000273 Adipose Tissue Specialized connective tissue composed of fat cells (ADIPOCYTES). It is the site of stored FATS, usually in the form of TRIGLYCERIDES. In mammals, there are two types of adipose tissue, the WHITE FAT and the BROWN FAT. Their relative distributions vary in different species with most adipose tissue being white. D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
D001345 Autoradiography The making of a radiograph of an object or tissue by recording on a photographic plate the radiation emitted by radioactive material within the object. (Dorland, 27th ed) Radioautography
D012334 RNA, Neoplasm RNA present in neoplastic tissue. Neoplasm RNA
