[Ebstein's anomaly of the heart with ventricular septal defect at age 65]. 1980

I Steiner, and J Carda

A postmortem in a woman of 65 revealed Ebstein's anomaly of the heart with ventricular septum defect. The defect had been closed from the right side by the septal cups of the tricuspid valve coalescing with its edges. Literary sources refer to only 6 cases of Ebstein's anomaly in subjects older than our patient. The simultaneous presence of spontaneously closed defect of ventricular septum makes it an entirely exceptional case.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009206 Myocardium The muscle tissue of the HEART. It is composed of striated, involuntary muscle cells (MYOCYTES, CARDIAC) connected to form the contractile pump to generate blood flow. D004437 Ebstein Anomaly A congenital heart defect characterized by downward or apical displacement of the TRICUSPID VALVE, usually with the septal and posterior leaflets being attached to the wall of the RIGHT VENTRICLE. It is characterized by a huge RIGHT ATRIUM and a small and less effective right ventricle. D006345 Heart Septal Defects, Ventricular Developmental abnormalities in any portion of the VENTRICULAR SEPTUM resulting in abnormal communications between the two lower chambers of the heart. Classification of ventricular septal defects is based on location of the communication, such as perimembranous, inlet, outlet (infundibular), central muscular, marginal muscular, or apical muscular defect.
