Radical en bloc excision of Ewing's sarcoma. 1980

This article discusses a new treatment plan for Ewing's sarcoma. In order to be able to reduce the dosage of X-ray therapy immediately after biopsy of the bone affected by Ewing's sarcoma, chemotherapy is pulsed into the patient until the maximum benefit is obtained. The local tumor areas is then treated by radical en bloc excision. Later, after healing is established, a relatively small dose of radiation therapy, not exceeding 3000--4000 rads, could be added. This plan of therapy not only decreases the total X-ray therapy dosage, but also reduces the incidence of local recurrence of the tumor.
