Kinetics of glucose handling in renal glucosuria during pregnancy. 1980

H Drexel, and S Sailer

Renal glucose titration studies were carried out in eight pregnant women with renal glucosuria and six female controls. it could be shown that the kinetics of renal glucosuria in pregnancy are very similar to familial renal glucosuria of type A. The tubular maximum of glucose reabsorption was lowered in our pregnancies to about the half. The data obtained clearly indicate that the renal threshold for glucose can be lowered significantly in humans by a still unknown endogenous factor.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007700 Kinetics The rate dynamics in chemical or physical systems.
D011247 Pregnancy The status during which female mammals carry their developing young (EMBRYOS or FETUSES) in utero before birth, beginning from FERTILIZATION to BIRTH. Gestation,Pregnancies
D011248 Pregnancy Complications Conditions or pathological processes associated with pregnancy. They can occur during or after pregnancy, and range from minor discomforts to serious diseases that require medical interventions. They include diseases in pregnant females, and pregnancies in females with diseases. D005865 Gestational Age The age of the conceptus, beginning from the time of FERTILIZATION. In clinical obstetrics, the gestational age is often estimated from the onset of the last MENSTRUATION which is about 2 weeks before OVULATION and fertilization. It is also estimated to begin from fertilization, estrus, coitus, or artificial insemination. D005947 Glucose A primary source of energy for living organisms. It is naturally occurring and is found in fruits and other parts of plants in its free state. It is used therapeutically in fluid and nutrient replacement. D006029 Glycosuria The appearance of an abnormally large amount of GLUCOSE in the urine, such as more than 500 mg/day in adults. It can be due to HYPERGLYCEMIA or genetic defects in renal reabsorption (RENAL GLYCOSURIA).
