Recurrent laryngeal nerve damage following formalin infiltration of ductus arteriosus. 1981

R W Seibert, and J J Seibert, and J B Norton, and D Williams

Formalin infiltration of the ductus arteriosus, a recent palliative procedure in neonates with certain congenital cardiac defects, has been shown to result in delayed left recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis. Implication for the airway and later management are discussed.

D005557 Formaldehyde A highly reactive aldehyde gas formed by oxidation or incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. In solution, it has a wide range of uses: in the manufacture of resins and textiles, as a disinfectant, and as a laboratory fixative or preservative.
