A comprehensive review of the state of development and clinical evaluation of cytostatic agents is given. Special attention is directed to agents which are known for long a time but whose clinical importance has grown only in recent years. This review takes into consideration the chemical structure, mode of action, pharmacokinetics, dosage, side effects, and results of clinical treatment of the following drugs: adriamycin, nitrosourea preparations, DTIC, dibromdulcitol. trofosfamid and ifosfamid, ftorafur, 5-azacytidin, platinum complexes, ICRF-159, cytembena, HMM, VM 26 and VP 16-213, cytostasan, estramustinphosphat, antibody-cytostatic complexes.
