Students with word finding disorders: three case studies. 1994

Case studies of three students of different ages with different types and degrees of word finding disorders are presented. One student is at the beginning of his school career, one has been in school for 7 years, and the third individual is a young adult who left school after completing only 11 grades. Each student's word finding profile and characteristics are presented as well as the impact of the disorder upon school performance particularly in the area of reading. Recommendations are made for intervention involving collaboration between speech-language pathologists and educators.

D002547	Cerebral Palsy	A heterogeneous group of nonprogressive motor disorders caused by chronic brain injuries that originate in the prenatal period, perinatal period, or first few years of life. The four major subtypes are spastic, athetoid, ataxic, and mixed cerebral palsy, with spastic forms being the most common. The motor disorder may range from difficulties with fine motor control to severe spasticity (see MUSCLE SPASTICITY) in all limbs. Spastic diplegia (Little disease) is the most common subtype, and is characterized by spasticity that is more prominent in the legs than in the arms. Pathologically, this condition may be associated with LEUKOMALACIA, PERIVENTRICULAR.
