The head nurse role in a rural hospital. 1995

D F Ernst

The role of the head nurse in a rural hospital is examined to identify perceptions of role conflict and role ambiguity experienced by head nurses. Study results suggest that improving staffing patterns, increasing the number of registered nurses, eliminating non-nursing activities and management training are warranted. The director of nursing plans to enhance the head nurse role and to facilitate further decentralization of nursing services.
