There is a popular misconception that the meniscus is avascular and that tears of the meniscus do not heal. Over the years this notion has gradually been dispelled as being incorrect and the fact that the periphery of the meniscus is in fact vascular has been accepted. Attempts to resuture this particular structure in the knee have, in some cases, proved to be very successful.
