Treatment of aseptic necrosis of the femoral head with Phemister-type bone grafts. 1976

This study was performed in order to assess the success and failure of bone grafting in early aseptic necrosis of the hip. Ten patients (11 hips) with a minimum of two years follow-up were evaluated by radiographic and clinical parameters. Seven of the 11 hips had good or excellent results. The criteria for a successful result were proper patient selection and exact placement of the bone grafts. The Phemister bone grafts appear to be the treatment of choice in early aseptic necrosis of the femoral head.
