Suralata Hospital Mahim, Bombay, India.

Laparoscopic sterilization with bipolar cautery and division was found to be a safe, effective and acceptable alternative to silastic band application. The main advantages were less tubal damage, applicability in edematous tubes, ease of tackling bleeding complications. Failure occurred in 0.2% of cases and ectopic pregnancy occurred in none. There was no mortality and no cases of bowel injury. Total number of complications was 3.94%.

D010535 Laparoscopy A procedure in which a laparoscope (LAPAROSCOPES) is inserted through a small incision near the navel to examine the abdominal and pelvic organs in the PERITONEAL CAVITY. If appropriate, biopsy or surgery can be performed during laparoscopy. D004564 Electrocoagulation Procedures using an electrically heated wire or scalpel to treat hemorrhage (e.g., bleeding ulcers) and to ablate tumors, mucosal lesions, and refractory arrhythmias. It is different from ELECTROSURGERY which is used more for cutting tissue than destroying and in which the patient is part of the electric circuit. D005187 Fallopian Tubes A pair of highly specialized canals extending from the UTERUS to its corresponding OVARY. They provide the means for OVUM transport from the ovaries and they are the site of the ovum's final maturation and FERTILIZATION. The fallopian tube consists of an interstitium, an isthmus, an ampulla, an infundibulum, and fimbriae. Its wall consists of three layers: serous, muscular, and an internal mucosal layer lined with both ciliated and secretory cells.
