Bacteriologic cultural examination of the lower respiratory tract of laboratory dogs. 1976

During lung transplantation experiments, the lower respiratory tracts of dogs were examined by bacteriologic cultural technique pre- and postoperatively. Three methods were used to obtain culture material: transtracheal aspiration, lung puncture, and lung biopsy collection. Both before and after operation, infections were commonplace. Antibiotics given at the time of operation tended to suppress infection.
