[Adapted parenteral nutrition of the newborn infants during prolonged artificial respiration]. 1993

V V Estrin, and I I Dobrenkaia, and N N Kraĭnova

The changes in some parameters of the metabolic status have been studied in mature newborns with meconial aspiration syndrome on prolonged controlled lung ventilation and parenteral nutrition given according to different schemes. Early correction of metabolism by individual adjustment of doses of the preparations used for parenteral nutrition correlates with the improvement in clinical signs and leads to a decrease in lethality and sepsis morbidity.

D008471 Meconium Aspiration Syndrome A condition caused by inhalation of MECONIUM into the LUNG of FETUS or NEWBORN, usually due to vigorous respiratory movements during difficult PARTURITION or respiratory system abnormalities. Meconium aspirate may block small airways leading to difficulties in PULMONARY GAS EXCHANGE and ASPIRATION PNEUMONIA. D010288 Parenteral Nutrition The administering of nutrients for assimilation and utilization by a patient who cannot maintain adequate nutrition by enteral feeding alone. Nutrients are administered by a route other than the alimentary canal (e.g., intravenously, subcutaneously). D012121 Respiration, Artificial Any method of artificial breathing that employs mechanical or non-mechanical means to force the air into and out of the lungs. Artificial respiration or ventilation is used in individuals who have stopped breathing or have RESPIRATORY INSUFFICIENCY to increase their intake of oxygen (O2) and excretion of carbon dioxide (CO2).
