[Behavior of gastrin and gastric juice secretion in acute and chronic kidney failure before and after kidney transplantation]. 1976

R I Wesdorp, and H A Falcao, and J M Funovics, and J E Fischer

In 50 patients (10 anephric, 10 with chronic renal failure, and 30 with acute renal failure) the correlation was studied between basal PG levels and basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion. a) The mean PG level in all 3 groups was significantly higher than in the control group, with the highest values in the anephric, which decreased to normal after kidney transplantation. b) In the patients with ARF and after transplantation there was a very positive correlation between PG levels and kidney function. c) Hemodialysis decreased PG levels moderately but significantly. d) Gastric acid studies showed in all groups a very low BAO and basal intragastric pH, with a significant release of gastric acid after pentagastrin stimulation, especially in the anephric.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007676 Kidney Failure, Chronic The end-stage of CHRONIC RENAL INSUFFICIENCY. It is characterized by the severe irreversible kidney damage (as measured by the level of PROTEINURIA) and the reduction in GLOMERULAR FILTRATION RATE to less than 15 ml per min (Kidney Foundation: Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative, 2002). These patients generally require HEMODIALYSIS or KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION. D011183 Postoperative Complications Pathologic processes that affect patients after a surgical procedure. They may or may not be related to the disease for which the surgery was done, and they may or may not be direct results of the surgery. D005750 Gastric Juice The liquid secretion of the stomach mucosa consisting of hydrochloric acid (GASTRIC ACID); PEPSINOGENS; INTRINSIC FACTOR; GASTRIN; MUCUS; and the bicarbonate ion (BICARBONATES). D005755 Gastrins A family of gastrointestinal peptide hormones that excite the secretion of GASTRIC JUICE. They may also occur in the central nervous system where they are presumed to be neurotransmitters. Gastrin
