Properties of interfacial water have been studied in saponite, hectorite and montmorillonite suspensions. These data, together with our previous results are explained by the presence of two water interfacial sites or by a fast exchange between them.

D009682 Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Spectroscopic method of measuring the magnetic moment of elementary particles such as atomic nuclei, protons or electrons. It is employed in clinical applications such as NMR Tomography (MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING). D010103 Oxygen Isotopes Stable oxygen atoms that have the same atomic number as the element oxygen, but differ in atomic weight. O-17 and 18 are stable oxygen isotopes. Oxygen Isotope,Isotope, Oxygen,Isotopes, Oxygen
D003903 Deuterium The stable isotope of hydrogen. It has one neutron and one proton in the nucleus. Deuterons,Hydrogen-2,Hydrogen 2
D000077215 Clay A naturally-occurring rock or soil constituent characterized by particles with a diameter of less than 0.005 mm. It is composed primarily of hydrous aluminum silicates, trace amounts of metal OXIDES, and organic matter. Halloysite,Clays,Halloysites
D000538 Aluminum Silicates Any of the numerous types of clay which contain varying proportions of Al2O3 and SiO2. They are made synthetically by heating aluminum fluoride at 1000-2000 degrees C with silica and water vapor. D001546 Bentonite A colloidal, hydrated aluminum silicate that swells 12 times its dry size when added to water. Montmorillonite,Montmorrillonite
D013535 Suspensions Colloids with liquid continuous phase and solid dispersed phase; the term is used loosely also for solid-in-gas (AEROSOLS) and other colloidal systems; water-insoluble drugs may be given as suspensions. Suspension
D017640 Silicates The generic term for salts derived from silica or the silicic acids. They contain silicon, oxygen, and one or more metals, and may contain hydrogen. (From McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th Ed) Silicate
