Management of patients undergoing stoma surgery. 1994

The formation of a stoma causes great anxiety and the patient may have difficulty in accepting his/her altered body image. This article describes how good preoperative counselling, sitting and postoperative care can help allay patients' fears of rejection, mutilation and degradation.
