Apoenzyme of aspartate aminotransferase in serum in health and disease. 1977

S Ratnaike, and D W Moss

Aspartate aminotransferase activity has been measured in the sera of normal subjects and in patients with various diseases both with and without addition of pyridoxal phosphate to the assay medium. Considerable quantities of apoaminotransferase were present in almost all samples. In normal subjects this potentially-active enzyme corresponds on average to about half the holoenzyme present before reactivation with pyridoxal phosphate. However, considerable variations between individuals were found in the amounts of apoaminotransferase present in serum, and also between groups of patients with various diseases.

D008297 Male Males
D008930 Mitochondria, Liver Mitochondria in hepatocytes. As in all mitochondria, there are an outer membrane and an inner membrane, together creating two separate mitochondrial compartments: the internal matrix space and a much narrower intermembrane space. In the liver mitochondrion, an estimated 67% of the total mitochondrial proteins is located in the matrix. D011732 Pyridoxal Phosphate This is the active form of VITAMIN B 6 serving as a coenzyme for synthesis of amino acids, neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine), sphingolipids, aminolevulinic acid. During transamination of amino acids, pyridoxal phosphate is transiently converted into pyridoxamine phosphate (PYRIDOXAMINE).
