A factor analysis of the Bem Sex-Role Inventory. 1977

C Whetton, and T Swindells

The present study presents a factor analysis of items of the Bem Sex-Role Inventory of independent masculinity and femininity dimensions. Some support was given to the independence of M and F dimensions, but because these together accounted for only 17% of the variance and many other factors were extracted, it was concluded that two dimensions only may be too simplistic a view of this sex-role inventory.
