The analysis of 2191 breech deliveries in the 1st Obstetrics Clinic of Medical Academy in Wrocław shows that there was a steady increase in the percentage of cesarean sections (from 0.8% in 1946-1955 to 59.6% in 1986-1990) and a decrease in the number of vaginal deliveries, especially manual procedures. The neonates born from cesarean section were generally in better condition than the ones born through vaginal delivery. There were also considerably fewer cases of trauma and perinatal mortality than in the natural delivery group. The greatest trauma and stillbirth rate has been observed in neonates after total extraction and in premature deliveries.
