[Plasma lipid concentrations during the healing phase after myocardial infarction (author's transl)]. 1977

K G Ravens, and P Jipp

In the initial phase after myocardial infarction the cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations were statistically significantly decreased with respect to the first evaluations. Subsequent analyses during the following four to five weeks revealed some increase in the plasma lipid level. On discharge from hospital the mean plasma lipid concentrations were elevated compared to the first day after myocardial infarction. The time courses of the changes in concentrations of the particular lipids were different. On discharge three quarters of the patients with myocardial infarction had developed hypertriglyceridaemia (hyperlipoproteinaemia type IV or type IIb). Our investigations demonstrate the difficulties in discovering a possible disorder in lipid metabolism during the healing phase after a myocardial infarction.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D006949 Hyperlipidemias Conditions with excess LIPIDS in the blood. Hyperlipemia,Hyperlipidemia,Lipemia,Lipidemia,Hyperlipemias,Lipemias,Lipidemias
D008055 Lipids A generic term for fats and lipoids, the alcohol-ether-soluble constituents of protoplasm, which are insoluble in water. They comprise the fats, fatty oils, essential oils, waxes, phospholipids, glycolipids, sulfolipids, aminolipids, chromolipids (lipochromes), and fatty acids. D010714 Phosphatidylethanolamines Derivatives of phosphatidic acids in which the phosphoric acid is bound in ester linkage to an ethanolamine moiety. Complete hydrolysis yields 1 mole of glycerol, phosphoric acid and ethanolamine and 2 moles of fatty acids. D010743 Phospholipids Lipids containing one or more phosphate groups, particularly those derived from either glycerol (phosphoglycerides see GLYCEROPHOSPHOLIPIDS) or sphingosine (SPHINGOLIPIDS). They are polar lipids that are of great importance for the structure and function of cell membranes and are the most abundant of membrane lipids, although not stored in large amounts in the system. Phosphatides,Phospholipid
D002784 Cholesterol The principal sterol of all higher animals, distributed in body tissues, especially the brain and spinal cord, and in animal fats and oils. Epicholesterol
D005230 Fatty Acids, Nonesterified FATTY ACIDS found in the plasma that are complexed with SERUM ALBUMIN for transport. These fatty acids are not in glycerol ester form.
