[Holter monitoring. Value in silent myocardial ischemia]. 1993

Service de Médecine interne, Hôpital Raymond Poincaré, Garches.

The inclusion of the digital system in the Holter recording and analyzing systems and the development of micro-computers have multiplied the possibilities and increased the accuracy of this technique. Analysis of the ST segment has resulted in a definition of the silent myocardial ischaemia syndrome. It has also made it possible to evaluate the importance of myocardial ischaemia in daily life and to assess the efficacy of anti-ischaemic treatments.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D011379 Prognosis A prediction of the probable outcome of a disease based on a individual's condition and the usual course of the disease as seen in similar situations. Prognostic Factor,Prognostic Factors,Factor, Prognostic,Factors, Prognostic,Prognoses
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D013997 Time Factors Elements of limited time intervals, contributing to particular results or situations. Time Series,Factor, Time,Time Factor
D015716 Electrocardiography, Ambulatory Method in which prolonged electrocardiographic recordings are made on a portable tape recorder (Holter-type system) or solid-state device ("real-time" system), while the patient undergoes normal daily activities. It is useful in the diagnosis and management of intermittent cardiac arrhythmias and transient myocardial ischemia. D017202 Myocardial Ischemia A disorder of cardiac function caused by insufficient blood flow to the muscle tissue of the heart. The decreased blood flow may be due to narrowing of the coronary arteries (CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE), to obstruction by a thrombus (CORONARY THROMBOSIS), or less commonly, to diffuse narrowing of arterioles and other small vessels within the heart. Severe interruption of the blood supply to the myocardial tissue may result in necrosis of cardiac muscle (MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION).
