D011375 Progesterone Reductase An enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of a 3 beta-hydroxy-delta(5)-steroid to 3-oxo-delta(4)-steroid in the presence of NAD. It converts pregnenolone to progesterone and dehydroepiandrosterone to androstenedione. EC 1.1.1.145. 3 beta-Hydroxy-delta-5-Steroid Dehydrogenase,5-Ene-3 beta-hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase,Steroid delta(5)-3 beta-ol Dehydrogenase,3 beta Hydroxy delta 5 Steroid Dehydrogenase,5 Ene 3 beta hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase,Dehydrogenase, 3 beta-Hydroxy-delta-5-Steroid,Dehydrogenase, 5-Ene-3 beta-hydroxysteroid,Reductase, Progesterone
D002248 Carbon Monoxide Carbon monoxide (CO). A poisonous colorless, odorless, tasteless gas. It combines with hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin, which has no oxygen carrying capacity. The resultant oxygen deprivation causes headache, dizziness, decreased pulse and respiratory rates, unconsciousness, and death. (From Merck Index, 11th ed) Monoxide, Carbon
D003577 Cytochrome P-450 Enzyme System A superfamily of hundreds of closely related HEMEPROTEINS found throughout the phylogenetic spectrum, from animals, plants, fungi, to bacteria. They include numerous complex monooxygenases (MIXED FUNCTION OXYGENASES). In animals, these P-450 enzymes serve two major functions: (1) biosynthesis of steroids, fatty acids, and bile acids; (2) metabolism of endogenous and a wide variety of exogenous substrates, such as toxins and drugs (BIOTRANSFORMATION). They are classified, according to their sequence similarities rather than functions, into CYP gene families (>40% homology) and subfamilies (>59% homology). For example, enzymes from the CYP1, CYP2, and CYP3 gene families are responsible for most drug metabolism. D006913 Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenases Enzymes of the oxidoreductase class that catalyze the dehydrogenation of hydroxysteroids. (From Enzyme Nomenclature, 1992) EC 1.1.-. Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase,Dehydrogenase, Hydroxysteroid,Dehydrogenases, Hydroxysteroid
D000332 Aerobiosis Life or metabolic reactions occurring in an environment containing oxygen. Aerobioses
D012233 Rhizopus A genus of zygomycetous fungi of the family Mucoraceae, order MUCORALES, a common saprophyte and facultative parasite of mature fruits and vegetables. It may cause cerebral mycoses in diabetes and cutaneous infection in severely burned patients.
D013053 Spectrophotometry The art or process of comparing photometrically the relative intensities of the light in different parts of the spectrum.
D013347 Subcellular Fractions Components of a cell produced by various separation techniques which, though they disrupt the delicate anatomy of a cell, preserve the structure and physiology of its functioning constituents for biochemical and ultrastructural analysis. (From Alberts et al., Molecular Biology of the Cell, 2d ed, p163) Fraction, Subcellular,Fractions, Subcellular,Subcellular Fraction
