[Moulting of insects without moulting gland: reseults with larvae of Periplaneta americana (author's transl)]. 1977

M Gersch

The course of moulting of Periplaneta americana larvae of which the prothoracic gland were exstirpated, was investigated in 2 succedding series. It could be proved that all animals underwent 1 or 2 moulting processes inspite of the absence of the moulting gland. These results demonstrate that the generally accepted classical schema of the endocrine control of the insect moulting must be renewed.
