Colonic gas explosion, although rare, is one of the most frightening, sometimes fatal iatrogenic complications in endoscopic surgery, but it is much less frequent during laparotomic surgery. Here we describe a case of colonic explosion during colonic diathermy in a patient with rectal cancer.
