A gas-liquid chromatographic method for the quantitative determination of quinidine in blood. 1977

M A Moulin, and H Kinsun

A gas-liquid chromatographic method, using chloroquine as internal standard, for quinidine evaluation in serum is described. Prior to acidic delipidation, chloroquine is added to the serum sample and an alkaline extraction is used. Direct gas-liquid chromatographic analysis of unaltered forms using a nitrogen detector is performed. The sensitivity limit of this method is 0.5 microng/ml, i.e. sufficient for therapeutic quinidine blood level determinatin (1 to 5 microng/ml).

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008832 Microchemistry The development and use of techniques and equipment to study or perform chemical reactions, with small quantities of materials, frequently less than a milligram or a milliliter.
D011802 Quinidine An optical isomer of quinine, extracted from the bark of the CHINCHONA tree and similar plant species. This alkaloid dampens the excitability of cardiac and skeletal muscles by blocking sodium and potassium currents across cellular membranes. It prolongs cellular ACTION POTENTIALS, and decreases automaticity. Quinidine also blocks muscarinic and alpha-adrenergic neurotransmission. D002849 Chromatography, Gas Fractionation of a vaporized sample as a consequence of partition between a mobile gaseous phase and a stationary phase held in a column. Two types are gas-solid chromatography, where the fixed phase is a solid, and gas-liquid, in which the stationary phase is a nonvolatile liquid supported on an inert solid matrix.
