[Effect of x-ray contrast materials on erythrocyte hemolysis]. 1977

N V Obraztsov, and N L Shimanovskiĭ

The effect of roentgen-contrast media on the hemolytic resistance of erythrocytes in conditions of a "hypotonic shock" and on the peroxidation of the erythrocytes lipids membranes was studied. It is shown that all the contrast media potentiate the erythrocytes hemolysis, but do not affect the rate of the lipids peroxidation. Preliminary introduction of pipolphen in a therapeutic dose in a erythrocytes suspension increases the resistance of membranes to the action of the roentgen-contrast media.

D009996 Osmotic Fragility RED BLOOD CELL sensitivity to change in OSMOTIC PRESSURE. When exposed to a hypotonic concentration of sodium in a solution, red cells take in more water, swell until the capacity of the cell membrane is exceeded, and burst. D011398 Promethazine A phenothiazine derivative with histamine H1-blocking, antimuscarinic, and sedative properties. It is used as an antiallergic, in pruritus, for motion sickness and sedation, and also in animals. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
