Home healthcare nurses have the opportunity to care for individuals who are mentally retarded/developmentally disabled, and their families, in different types of community residences. Nursing assessments and interventions are initiated at various times in the life cycle. The goal is to help the individual and family members attain their maximum level of health, function, independence, recognition, and self-esteem.
