[Some aspects of vagal control of exocrine pancreatic secretion in rabbits (author's transl)]. 1977

M D Vega, and A Esteller, and G Varela, and A Murillo

Stimulation of the thoracic vagus nerves in anesthetized rabbit appears to act only by increasing the amylase content of pancreatic juice. Stimulation of the abdominal vagus nerve slightly increased the flow of juice and clearly its amylase content, effects which were respectively reduced and abolished by atropine. The vagal control of the exocrine pancreas in rabbits shows substantial differences when compared with other herbivorous monogastric species such as horse and pig.

D010179 Pancreas A nodular organ in the ABDOMEN that contains a mixture of ENDOCRINE GLANDS and EXOCRINE GLANDS. The small endocrine portion consists of the ISLETS OF LANGERHANS secreting a number of hormones into the blood stream. The large exocrine portion (EXOCRINE PANCREAS) is a compound acinar gland that secretes several digestive enzymes into the pancreatic ductal system that empties into the DUODENUM.
D010189 Pancreatic Juice The fluid containing digestive enzymes secreted by the pancreas in response to food in the duodenum. Juice, Pancreatic,Juices, Pancreatic,Pancreatic Juices
D010828 Physiology, Comparative The biological science concerned with similarities or differences in the life-supporting functions and processes of different species. Comparative Physiology
D011817 Rabbits A burrowing plant-eating mammal with hind limbs that are longer than its fore limbs. It belongs to the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha, and in contrast to hares, possesses 22 instead of 24 pairs of chromosomes. D000681 Amylases A group of amylolytic enzymes that cleave starch, glycogen, and related alpha-1,4-glucans. (Stedman, 25th ed) EC 3.2.1.-. Diastase,Amylase
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
