Diabetes mellitus type II (non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) may run a prolonged subclinical course. In three patients, an indian man of 45, a man of 42 and a woman of 78 years old, the first symptoms were eye disorders: vision loss, burning eyes with recurring chalazion, and (neurogenic) diplopia respectively. All three had elevated blood sugar levels and were treated accordingly.
